November is American Diabetes Month

by SKHC Editor on November 23, 2010

November is nationally recognized as American Diabetes Month and the American Diabetes Association wants to know How Will You Stop Diabetes®? The Future Is in Your Hands.

Today, in the United States, nearly 24 million children and adults have diabetes. Another 57 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. If current trends continue, one out of every three children born in the United States will face a future with diabetes.

Since 1987 the death rate due to diabetes has increased by 45%. Two out of three people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke. Diabetes is also the leading cause of kidney failure.

The facts are grim. Diabetes is a disease with deadly consequences. Step up and take action to stop diabetes.
