3 Ways to Fight the Flu

Who wants the flu? Obviously no one wants it, so here are three ways to fight it.

1. Get a flu vaccine – the CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in flu virus protection. Only children younger than six months old, who are too young to be vaccinated, should not get the flu vaccine.

2. Be proactive against germs – wash your hands with soap and water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Keep your hands off your face – touching your eyes, nose, and mouth are an easy way to spread germs. Practice common courtesy – cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze (you could even go the extra mile and sanitize after). Stay away from sick people – if you’re sick, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone (of course it’s okay to seek medical attention if need be).

3. Listen to your doctor – if you do succumb to the flu (symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue – possibly vomiting and diarrhea too) see your doctor within 48 hours. Antiviral drugs can help lessen the severity of symptoms and length of the flu, but they work best when started within two days of getting sick. Keep in mind that it’s also possible to be infected with the flu, and have respiratory symptoms without a fever.

Following these suggestions won’t exempt you from the flu, but they certainly will help you with your fight against it. Here’s to a healthy immune system.

Great tips! It’s also important to increase your intake of Vitamin C to boost the immune system and help fight diseases.
